Celebration of Bill’s Life Service will be at 12:00P.M. on Friday April 14, 2017 at Pulliam Funeral Home Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery rural Willow Hill, IL.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00P.M. on Friday April 14, 2017 at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL.

Clarence William “Bill” Wilson, 79, of Mattoon, IL formerly of Willow Hill, IL passed away on Monday April 10, 2017 at Helia Healthcare in Olney, IL.

Bill was born on July 29, 1937 to William Erman Wilson and Ruth Marie (Jeffers) Wilson. On February 4, 1956 he married Iris Josephine Spink, they later divorced.

Bill served his country in the United States Air Force where he worked in electronics.  During his 20 year service Bill had many deployments including a tour of duty in Vietnam.  After his retirement Bill worked for 17 years at the Great Lakes Naval Reserve teaching electronics. Bill graduated in 1975 with his Associates Degree from Olney Central College and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1978. Bill was a member of the Willow Hill United Methodist Church and former member and President of the Willow Hill Ruritan Club.  Bill liked to donate his time to the Mattoon Salvation Army. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes, reading and running. He especially liked to run 5Ks.  He was a regular blood donor to the American Red Cross and did so for as long as he could, even into his early 70s. Bill actually donated blood once immediately after running the Bagel Fest 5K race in Mattoon.

Bill is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Mark and Julie Wilson, Noble, IL, Brent and Debbie Wilson, Noble, IL; two daughters and son-in-law Deena and Mike Fear, Oblong, IL, and Deborah Wilson, Willow Hill, IL; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren with one due in August 2017. Bill is also survived by two sisters Margaret Wilson, Palestine, IL and Juanita Spink, Urbana, IL along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Cheryl Wilson, one sister Lola Mae Shire and his brother Melvin E. Wilson.
